Kim Coe, China Spring Elementary School Principle would like to begin the reading partners program at the beginning of this coming February and use the experiences to more fully flesh out what the reading program will look like for next year’s school year.
Here is the plan that Kim Coe and Regina Day, the reading interventionist at the Elementary School.:
If we can have 3 persons from each church that are interested in being a reading partner that would allow us to read to 36 students. As is seen in the attached drop description for a reading partner, each one would have 2 children (1st Graders) that they would read to once a week (more specifics listed in the draft job description).
The actual reading would begin in the school the week of February 4th and concluding the week of May 6th (13 weeks) with the reading with students to take place on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. The time slots a volunteer could choose for their reading would be any of the following:
7:30 to 8:30
8:30 to 9:00
9:00 to 9:30
12:45 to 1:15
1:15 to 1:45 or
2:30 to 3:00 pm
Prior to the beginning of the training, there would be a Reading Partner training that would take place January 24th beginning at 1:30 pm in the CSISD Administration Building. As with other volunteering, each reading partner would need to complete the volunteer application and submit to the background screening. The volunteer application is attached.
