Meet the Staff
Mike Copeland-Pastor
Mike Copeland-Pastor

Mike Copeland joined the First Baptist Church family as pastor in February of 2006.  He has served in churches in Texas and New Mexico as youth, worship, education, associate pastor, and pastor.  He came to us from Farmington, New Mexico where he served as Associate Pastor and Pastor of the church he grew up attending.  Mike and his wife, Julie have 5 children.  Cody and Collin are both graduates of Texas Tech University.  Cody is a freelance writer living in Mexico City and Collin is the Asssitant Manager of the Waco Torchy's Restaurant.  Erin is a BU grad and House Manager at Common Grounds coffee shop in Waco.  John is a University of Texas graduate with a degree in Television/Film and activily looking for work. Meggie is the fashion editor for an environmental magazine with and edge called Selva Beat in Austin. She also sells funky fashions at Creatures on South Congress.

Julie and Mike have a love for music and and have sung duets together since before they were married.  They met in Chapel Choir at Baylor University from which they graduated in 1981.  Julie likes to garden and produce the pretty blooms that a garden brings. Mike likes to garden if it will produce a product that is edible.

Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of nine and was called into full-time service at the age of 15.  "I love the warm fellowship of the First Baptist family and watching the members share that love with everyone who enters the FBC doors. We are also looking for ministries that go beyond the walls of the church building."

Favorite food: green chile

Favorite book: Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

Favorite Scripture:  1 Corinthians 15:10  "By the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect."

Musical Favorites:  Dan Fogleberg, 1970's funk, Earth, Wind, and Fire, James Taylor, BTO, and many more.

Movie Favorites:  Road to Perdition, Young Frankenstein, It's a Wonderful Life

Favorite activity:  to laugh

Tom Lyons-Minister to Students
Tom Lyons-Minister to Students

Tom grew up in San Antonio before moving to the Waco area in 1996 to attend Baylor University and began his ministry here in July, 2010. He earned his B.A. in Psychology from Baylor and is currently attending Truett Seminary to earn a Master of Divinity in Youth Ministry. Tom has worked at First Baptist China Spring since June of 2010 as the Minister to Students. He has been married to Morgan Lyons since March 2010, and they have two children. Samuel Donald is 2 years old and Mackenzie Lynn joined the pride in February of 2016.  Both compete for being the cutest kids in the world and they almost always wear a smile. They have two dogs, Baylor and Lady Bear, and a cat Tucker (named after a Truett professor). In his free time, Tom loves to watch movies, read, and do anything sports related.

David Kyei Ko-Minister of Music

David Ko has been serving at FBC China Spring as the Worship and Praise Director since 2017. He graduated from California Baptist University and George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University. He speaks Korean and English. He loves traveling for leisure and for music missions. He is passionate about worshiping God and writing songs of praise cross-culturally. ???, ?리 ????? ??????. ???????. -?? ????".

Favorite food: Korean BBQ is HEAVENLY.

Favorite book: Other than the Bible, I don’t really have one. My favorite book in the Bible, however, is Psalms.

Favorite Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14

Musical Favorites: Lion King, Alaadin, Beauty and the Beast, Ordinary Days, Wicked

Movie Favorites:  ALL Avengers, Jason Bourne series, X-men series, 2012, Twister, Geostorm, Train to Busan

Favorite activity:  As much as I enjoy doing things with music, I love watching Korean dramas and variety shows all day, every day.
